Honesdale, Pa. —

A new community radio station for Northeast Pennsylvania, WFTE-FM, will be on the air by February.

Community Radio Collective, Inc., (CRC), a local non-profit, is launching an aggressive and creative fundraising campaign with the theme “Tower for the People,” to raise the last $40,000 needed to make it happen. Some $180,000 has already gone into the effort.

“To get on the air we need $25,000 to get the tower and studio up and working,” said Jake Rosen, cofounder and chairman of the board. “Throw in some necessary miscellaneous expenses and the total we need to raise is $40,000. This is quite a small sum for what we are creating and the tremendous impact it can have in this area.”

“We will be on the air,” promised board member Rev. Paul Gere. “We have so many volunteers with experience in radio, music, art, and politics who are hungry for an outlet. We get more people at each planning meeting who want to help because they know the Scranton area needs alternative sources for local news, and outlets for local musicians to promote their work.”
